6days ago, Palestinians located the bodies of 15 aid workers in a mass grave in Gaza. One week after two ambulances were directly shot at by the Israeli military, the bodies of these Red Crescent workers were finally found handcuffed and crushed under their ambulances, concealed in a mass grave.

The @palestineredcrescent recovered the bodies of eight medics, six civil defense workers, and one UN employee, all killed when the Israeli military opened fire on them in Rafah while they were en route to provide first aid. A spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza said that each retrieved body was riddled with around 20 gunshots from the Israeli military. A ninth PRCS medic is still missing.

This is the deadliest attack on Red Cross or Red Crescent workers worldwide in nearly a decade. The medics killed by the Israeli military are Mustafa Khafaja, Ezz El-Din Shaat, Saleh Muammar, Refaat Radwan, Muhammad Bahloul, Ashraf Abu Libda, Muhammad Al-Hila, and Raed Al-Sharif.

PRCS said, “This massacre of our team is a tragedy not only for us at the PRCS, but also for humanitarian work and humanity.”

The Israeli military has killed 1,402 medical workers and 111 civil defense crew in Gaza since the genocide began. These dedicated ambulance workers, clearly identified by protective emblems, were tending to the wounded. They should have made it home to their families, but never did.

The photos coming out of Gaza are a terrifying echo of all-too-familiar images of European ghettos and Nazi concentration camps in WWII. This level of dehumanization is yet another appalling warning of how far the Israeli government’s genocide of Palestinians has been permitted to escalate.

We who have grown up in the shadow of the Holocaust can’t deny the parallels we see with our community’s own dehumanization. We’ve seen this before and know where this leads. As anti-Zionist Jews, we resist Israeli oppression of Palestinians, drawing on our collective knowledge to prevent further atrocities. We must speak out before it’s too late.
