Playing for Change: "Asa Branca" Manu Chao & Mermans Mosengo

Harmonious collaboration with Mermans Mosengo  performing the classic Brazilian folk song, "Asa Branca."

During the trip to Angola, the crew drove hours to the ancient native village of Calandula, and while waiting for the rain to cease, we joined together for this intimate Live Outside rendition.

"Asa Branca," written by Luiz Gonzaga and Humberto Teixeira in 1947, symbolizes the departure of a migrant worker amid the arid conditions in Sertão, having to leave love behind in search of a better life, but promising to return with the rain. "Asa Branca," was voted the fourth greatest Brazilian song in the past decade by Rolling Stone Brazil, and speaks of the deep connection between the land and its people, with underlying themes of hope, freedom, and the longing to return home.

Written by Luiz Gonzaga and Humberto Teixeira
